Retraction & Apology

When we learned that the FBI was investigating a kid for hacking Sarah Palin's email account, I made a contemptuous comment about the fate he deserved.  I was wrong to make it, and to whatever miniscule extent it matters in this election, it matters to me to apologize on the same page that the comment was made.  The kid is a hacker.  He doesn't matter.  The candidates' views on the issues is what matters.

The recent gain in the polls for Barack Obama is a direct result of the crisis on Wall Street.  So why isn't the McCain campaign jumping all over the fact that the Democrats caused it?

- McCain just suspended his campaign to focus on the economy - looks like they're striking at the right time.  If Obama doesn't follow suit, he'll be putting personal ambition over the well-being of the country.  If he does, McCain will be the victor for doing so first.  As Jennifer Rubin writes at Contentions, "Meanwhile, if that doesn’t work, the McCain camp has put out a blistering e-mail suggesting that while James Johnson was still receiving tens of thousands of dollars from Fannie Mae per month, he was selected as Obama’s VP Search Committee chair. They then challenge the media to investigate."

- I also just saw the transcript of a speech that McCain made a few days ago doing exactly what I suggested, although I'm assuming it hasn't received any coverage in the states (I can't watch Fox News from Jerusalem).  he needs to do more of this.

NM: Who Paid For Obama's Harvard Education?

His campaign's official answer has been "hard work and student loans".  But this report from NewsMax says that he may have received funding from a "radical Islamic activist" with ties to Saudi prince Alwaleed bin Talal.  Sounds fishy to me.
